9/2 Update: We poured a lot from the keg – maybe about 5-6 pitchers in 90 minutes or so – and it poured terrible.  Sometimes the first beer to pour has a large head but this was consistently a thick foam that would monopolize about 90%+ of the pour, as pictured below.  We ended up having to pour into a pitcher just to let it sit for a while in able to pour into our beers.  Tim has already offered to replace the keg but at this point (more than half-way through it) I might just finish it and be weary to buy “new” brews from BBC (who is already slowly falling out of favor with me).

We’re recovering from a pair of the slowest moving kegs we’ve ever had (Geary’s HSA & especially Gritty’s Halloween) so this should be a nice, welcome change.  I also wanted to serve something light since I’ve been getting sinus/allergy headaches when drinking and I suspect it might be the hops that I’m allergic to… which this hopefully won’t affect as much. [6/9/10 Update: it seems to be fine & allergy-free.  The Willamette hops didn't seem to bother me at all]

…kicked during the Boston Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup win!

We’re recovering from a pair of the slowest moving kegs we’ve ever had (Geary’s HSA & especially Gritty’s Halloween) so this should be a nice, welcome change.  I also wanted to serve something light since I’ve been getting sinus/allergy headaches when drinking and I suspect it might be the hops that I’m allergic to… which this hopefully won’t affect as much.

Kicked 6/1. Popular beer but we all seemed to have problems with C02 the following day as if the yeast was still aggressively fermenting.  It didn’t slow us down but it was definitely in imperfection with the batch.

Kicked 1/16/11… but the long tap-time is no reflection of the quality of this beer.  This is one of my favorite of BBC’s offerings and I’ll certainly put it on tap again – most likely before the end of the year, too.

Berkshire describes the beer as;

This German Kölsch uses an authentic yeast strain brewed true to style. A pale golden ale, light in body featuring a crisp, clean malt flavor, Gold Spike is the perfect quaff for a warm day. 4.2% v/v, 17 IBU

Tapped 5/7/10.  Kicked 5/14/10 (to become the fastest kicked keg!).

Overall: great beer – I loved it.  It was a nice session beer that was light enough ABV so you could enjoy it without getting into trouble.  Well balanced, refreshing – the perfect summer beer.  I’d certainly order this again and plan to once we finish the rest of the queue.
